COMPETEORS

I have carried out some research on competetors of Sophia Webster's shoes. As Sophia's shoes are very unique there are always shoes out there that will either be mimiking Sophia's style or just keeping up with trends. Metallics, graphic prints and furr have been big hit trends for AW14. I have carried out research on brands that I would go to first hand if I was looking for a really unique pair of shoes for either occasion wear or something to finish off an outfit. I fall into Sophia's target market age, so I feel that all the competetors I have looked at would be where other women of my age or over would go to in search for the ideal pair of shoes.

From my research I specifically researched in KG by Kurt Gieger, because in her consession stores she is placed next to this competetor in most of the stores, the two pairs of KG's I found are so similar to Sophia's is almost like they are mimiking eachother but obviously there is a hige price difference, KG can produce in bulk and the shoes are also manufactured made therefore set a lower price compared to Sophia, who's shoes are hand made, only produces a small amount to keep exclusiveness to the brand she also has use of calf leather and suade soles. Also for Sophia to have a huge online presence she does not go into much detail when giving the customers a description of the shoes, whereas the other brands give you details on fabrics used, fasening and a brief description of the shoe.

The similarity of these heeled sandals is uncanny, they both have a clear jelly finish look to them and both have the chunky heel design. The only difference is the price difference; someone in Sophia’s age range of 20-35 would much prefer to spend £50 on a pair of jelly sandals that they may only wear for one season. Whereas with Sophia’s they are still causal but do have a more sophisticated look to them compared to the ASOS copy,  they have a skinnier heel and have more of a closed in front.

Missguided is all the rage at the moment, they are on the TV they are all over social media, in the past few days I have seen these shoes pop up on my instagram and twitter feed so many times, Missguided themselves are promoting them, bloggers are wearing and styling them these shoes are also currently out of stock on their website. My first initial thoughts when I saw them? ‘Oh my god they look like Sophia Webster’s!!!!’ cheek of it, Missguided are knocking these out for only £29.99 no wonder they are out of stock on the website, compared to Sophia’s similar bank breaking £490. The only difference is the unique snake design on the back of the heel on Sophia’s which does make them stand out. But also I have mentioned before in my research she uses real rabbit fur, which would automatically turn away any customers which are PETA.

The difference between these is clearly the price, but also the fact that Sophia’s are made from real leather whereas the ASOS pair are only ‘leather-look finish’ they are both a pointed toe court which is very on trend at the moment. They both are also of similar height which would appeal maybe to the older scale of Sophia’s target market (30+).

These two shoes look very similar to the eye, they both feature the buckle ankle strap and the trendy strap around the front of the foot, which then allows them to be called a ‘heeled sandal’. They are both similar in heel height, and very similar in design, having the same pattern and also adding a slight bit of colour where ASOS are using pink Sophia is using red.

Oh metallic’s, such a huge trend for AW14. Dune have produced these very statement snake looking court shoes for an easily affordable £85. Metallic’s will probably come and go so you will only be looking to wear these shoes for the season, so £85 is not bad for a season’s wear. Whereas Sophia’s, are on a different level of the spectrum, the design is splattered with neon paint giving the shoes some edge, but to make them even better they have the signature flamingo heel, which is anyone sees you with these in the high-street, they will automatically be able to tell you that you are in fact wearing Sophia Webster heels… the exclusiveness. I also don’t think for £380 these are a bad price, they would be a statement piece to any outfit.

If I was a customer in Selfridges and saw these two pairs of shoes standing next to each other I would barely be able to tell the difference,  the only difference I would be able to see is the price! But that may have something to do with being a student on a tight budget, if I was the average Selfridges shopper, city girl in my late twenty’s looking for a classy shoe/boot to wear for my next glamorous occasion maybe the price wouldn’t come into account.
